A SMALL TIP ABOUT BLACK
Have you ever been working a beautiful black bead and gone back in the flame and scorched the surface, getting a billion tiny bubbles that are impossible to “cook out”? Well I can solve this puzzle for you!
Black has a lot of manganese in it, i.e. a lot of metal. When you paddle the surface of black you rob the heat out of the bead because a carbon paddle chills the glass very fast. When you go back into the heat, presto, you scorch the surface because the metal burns first before the glass does.
You can solve this by HEATING YOUR PADDLE in the flame before you paddle the black bead. The surface dose not lose as much heat this way and the bead can’t scorch when reheated!
NOTE! The paddle will be about 800 degrees so don’t lay it down where you will come in contact with it!
